We all have those "pet projects" in our faith and things that we just love to study, well for me it is giving versus tithing.  I know all the arguments on both sides, have read extensively about why should tithe, why we shouldn't, why 10% is the starting place and why it is not.  I have read R.C. Sproul, a tither and John McArthur a non-tither.  Its just fun for me.

Well I never read 2 Corinthians 9:7 in "The Message" probably because "The Message" is not a translation, but anyway I got a good laugh out of what Peterson did with it:

6–7 Remember: A stingy planter gets a stingy crop; a lavish planter gets a lavish crop. I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give. That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting. God loves it when the giver delights in the giving
