What fostering has taught me, entry 1

Entry 1:

I learned to cope with uncomfortable questions like: will you take a child that is blind, deaf, violent, dangerous, mentally ill, handicapped and the list goes on. Most people never have to fill out a form that asks you about your preferences when it comes to children. Most people never have to face their own, prejudices, fear and ignorance and relate those to a child. A child. Likely an orphan. Would you call me cold if I refused to take a child because they were mentally ill, physically handicapped or HIV positive? Yes it is very strange to "choose" what type of child you are willing to allow in to your family. And yes you have to say "no" to certain children. Saying "no" doesn't make you a monster and if you are not honest at this phase you, your family and the foster child will suffer; greatly.
